„As Romanian entrepreneurial companies increasingly recognize the capital market’s essential role in sustainable long-term business growth, a transformative wave sweeps through the local financial landscape. The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) stands at the forefront of this evolution, being the proof for the great potential of diversified investment portfolios and enhanced market liquidity. At BCR, we continuously share our expertise and insights with our clients and partners, emphasizing long-term perspectives. This information exchange is based on solid data and financial projections. For example, by the end of 2023, the market value of the 371 listed companies exceeded RON 301 billionc, said Cosmina Plaveti, Head of Investment Banking BCR.

„Our forecasts suggest that increasing the number of listed companies by 10% on the BVB main segment over the next decade could boost market capitalization to nearly 22% of GDP, up from 19% in 2023. Moreover, the average annual growth rate of market capitalization on the BVB’s main segment over the past decade stood at 8.2%. If this pace accelerates by an additional 10 pp beyond the baseline scenario, market capitalization could approach 50% of GDP, a significant leap from the current 19%”, she added.

„Beside these figures, we have to capitalize on the historic IPO of Hidroelectrica. This event marked a milestone for the local capital market, and our strong belief is that we have to build momentum and drive forward the growth of the Romanian capital market. The Hidroelectrica IPO has revealed both depth and untapped potential. Furthermore, it has demonstrated the BVB robustness, also setting a precedent for future listings. It’s clear that leveraging this momentum to attract new issuers is not just an opportunity—it’s a necessity, and we are here to sustain Romania’s broader economic transformation.”, concludes Cosmina Plaveti from BCR.
