“In the past decade, Romania’s NPL market has matured significantly – with the NPL ratio dropping from 21% in 2014 to just 2.53% in 2025, while investor appetite has remained robust, though increasingly selective. Over the last few years, however, we have witnessed a sharp decline in available banking portfolios due to stricter fiscal regulations and changing collection strategies. At the same time, acquisition prices have soared – in 2024, the average price for unsecured portfolios reached 55%, compared to just 11% a year earlier, and we have even seen deals close at over 60% of face value in 2025”, said Cosmina Marinescu, CEO at KRUK Romania.
