First View to MIRSANU DEALMAKERS SUMMIT 2022. Madalina Neagu, Schoenherr: Turbulent times create M&A opportunities

“2022 has been a challenging year and the M&A world has not been spared by this turmoil. The year debuted with optimism and record high deals. Fast – forward into mid-year, not only have the headwinds grown stronger, but new challenges were added to the M&A landscape, such as increased cost of funding, accelerated inflation, disruptions in the supply chain and last but not least an energy crisis deepened by the Russia–Ukraine conflict“, said Madalina Neagu, M&A Partner at Schoenherr.

“On top of the economical hurdles, market players need to brace for the tightening regulatory requirements, in particular for deals that are subject to merger clearance and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) scrutiny. In response to increased protectionism, we could anticipate a rise in domestic deals to the detriment of cross-border M&A activity. Faced with such challenges, dealmakers will undoubtedly need to adapt their script, reevaluate their strategic priorities, think long term and be prepared for the full range of potential outcomes. While the current volatility is likely to impact the key deal terms and the process trends, we still expect solid M&A activity for the year ahead“, she added.

Alexandra Popa, KPMG: Pe pietele mature, bursa ar trebui sa ofere un premium la evaluare fata de tranzactiile M&A ceea ce de multe ori nu se intampla pe pietele de frontiera si emergente, unde se inverseaza structura din cauza lipsei de lichiditate.
